Participants from Stepping Stone-Sucat were all excited to be part of Autism Society Philippines’ (ASP) biggest organized national event called “Angel’s Walk” which was held last March 3, Sunday, at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena located at Pasay City.
This year, our students and their parents, teachers and admin staff from our Sucat campus attended the event. Geared up with winged caps and ASP green shirts, the group was all set to join the crowd at the queue area. Functional Academics students Gio Matibag, Marc De Leon, Glaiza Bustamante, and Ysabella Abilo from Teen-Adult class were all excited to see what was going to happen as they entered the arena.
Our Academics Head Ms. JB was greeted by former students of our school’s Housekeeping and Barista training programs. There were also familiar faces that she would always see over the years that she participated in this event.
This year, ASP showcased the talents and skills of individuals with Autism in singing and playing musical instruments . The program started with an energizing Original Pinoy Music (OPM) Zumba dance number which everyone actively participated in. Mrs. Matibag, Gio’s Mom, marvelled at the ability of these individuals to play an electric guitar, drums and keyboard. The vocalist of the band sang the current hit song8 which truly grabbed the attention of everyone.
ASP also presented on this occasion the newly elected officers of the organization. Towards the end of the program, the start of the Walk was announced at around 10:30 a.m. Gradually, each group representing their chapter, readied their banner and started walking from the grounds of the arena to the sidewalks of the avenue going to the Mall of Asia. While the walk was tiring, the concepts they learned and all the experiences they had during the event, certainly had given them wonderful memories.
